Leadership Style in Action

Workshop Aim

The effective supervisor adapts their style to suite the people they are supervising, the situation and the task at hand. This module enables the supervisor to determine the best style of leadership for their situation and people and to adapt appropriately. The module emphasises the importance of a high involvement style of management and encourages supervisors to develop a style appropriate to the needs of their group without compromising their own integrity.

Competency Outputs

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Identify their current leadership style
  • Determine the best style for their situation and people
  • Link specific behaviours to the style that they have determined
  • Assess their subordinates to determine the style of leadership best suited to each of them

  • Qualities of an effective leader
  • Leadership styles, yesterday, today and tomorrow
  • Participative leadership - what it means in their company
  • Understanding the individuals you work with
  • Leaders as role models - leading by example
  • Leadership and motivation - your role as supervisor

Methodology

The methodology used in this module includes a leadership style assessment; interactive presentations; group discussions; "what would you do?" exercises; skills practices.

Target Audience: Employees who need supervisory training.
Module Duration: 5 - 8 hours, dependent on the level of the group
