Workshop Aim

Leaders today need to take the initiative to make a positive impact on the results of their unit. It is no longer enough to follow instructions and do what the job description says. Things are changing so rapidly that supervisors have to constantly make the effort to do things better, to continuously improve their unit's performance. This module orients the supervisor to his/her role in taking the initiative. The module emphasises the importance of proactive action. It ensures that supervisors understand how taking the initiative can enhance their performance and identifies opportunities for action within the scope of the supervisor's function.

Influencing and Partnering Skills

Workshop Aim

Influencing and partnering skills are the basis for success for any consultant or internal staff professional. These skills allow you to form strong business relationships with your "clients" and enable you to impact positively on their thinking and actions. Your success depends on your ability to influence others effectively. You need to find ways in which you can impact on and change the existing paradigms and behaviours entrenched in your organisation. The partnerships you build are equally critical to the value you can add.

This workshop equips you with the practical skills and knowledge to start increasing your influence and strengthen your internal partnerships. At the end of the workshop you will be able to identify:
  • The power bases you operate from for optimal success
  • How you can build long-term, value-added relationships with your "clients"
  • How you build your influence within your organisation

Methodology

A combination of interactive presentations, group discussions, practical exercises, drama simulations and skill practices allow the delegate to develop their skills and deal with their personal issues and problems around influencing and partnering.

Assertiveness Skills

Workshop Aim

Today's changing workplace requires all employees to participate proactively in order to contribute to their organisation's success. This workshop enables individuals to identify the need for and develop assertive behaviours in their own work place. The focus of the modules is on enhancing the individual's appropriate use of assertive behaviour and moving them towards personal mastery. The aim is to enabling the individual to understand and apply practical techniques of assertive behaviour in his or her day-to-day work environment.

Competency Outputs

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the development of their own assertiveness
  • Take personal accountability for the outcome of their interactions Identify their own inhibitions, or barriers, to being assertive and develop methods of overcoming these
  • Identify situations in which their assertiveness will provide a positive outcome
  • Use assertive behaviours appropriately to impact positively on their workplace interactions

          • Building an assertiveness model
          • Understanding the factors and issues involved in assertiveness
          • Myths and barriers surrounding the use of assertiveness
          • Characteristics of assertive people
  • Exploring the now - gaining insight into the individuals current status and use of assertiveness
  • Assertiveness techniques and behaviours
  • Reprogramming old patterns of behaviour

Methodology

The methodology used in this module includes; self check analysis and reflection; group discussions; simulations and individual real-time exercises.
